To celebrate the 50th anniversary of M*A*S*H, I’m taking a weekly look back at what episode of M*A*S*H aired five decades ago on CBS.

Episode Title: “Ceasefire” (#23, 01×23)
Airdate: Sunday, March 18th, 1973
Teleplay By: Robert Klane & Larry Gelbart
Story By: Larry Gelbart

Nielsen Rank: N/A

The 24th episode of M*A*S*H, and the Season 1 finale, aired 50 years ago today. “Showtime” aired for the first time on Sunday, March 25th, 1973 on CBS.

Here’s the capsule summary from my Episode Spotlight for the episode:

While the USO brings entertainment to the 4077th, Henry awaits word of the birth of his son back in the States, a paranoid dentist worries about getting home safe, Trapper and others carry out a tough surgery, and Hawkeye is the butt of Frank’s practical jokes.

In an alternate universe, “Showtime” may have been the very last episode of M*A*S*H ever. Thankfully, CBS renewed the series for a second season and many more after that.

CBS began airing repeats of M*A*S*H the week after this episode aired.

Check back next week for the next installment of 50 Years of M*A*S*H.
