Kellye Nakahara Talks M*A*S*H on NPR

Kellye Nakahara, who played Nurse Kellye on M*A*S*H, was interviewed by Rachel Martin this morning for NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday. Martin mentions a recent blog post about Kellye Nakahara that went viral, which I believe can be found here.

“My husband was so proud that somebody finally wrote what he’s always thought,” Nakahara told Martin. In the brief interview, Nakahara discussed how much she loved working on the series and recounts how she used to tap dance in her boots while waiting for scenes to start. That trait, like many others, was given to Nurse Kellye (in “Hey, Look Me Over,” she tells Hawkeye she’s learning to tap dance).

According to Nakahara, her character “was a genuine person who wasn’t being looked at the same way as the glamorous girls that were coming through the compound.” She said she still gets fan mail from people who saw (and see) her as a role model.
