Most Fans Haven’t Played 1983 M*A*S*H Video Game

It turns out the vast majority of visitors to MASH4077TV.com haven’t played the 1983 M*A*S*H video game from Atari. That’s what last month’s poll was about. A total of 129 votes were cast and an astounding majority of those who voted said they’ve never played the game.

Here are the full results:

  • No (90%, 116 Votes)
  • Yes (10%, 13 Votes)

I’m one of the 116 people who’ve never played the M*A*S*H video game. I’ve read about it and I’ll be posting more about the game in a few days. You can actually play it online if you want.

For the few who indicated they have played the game, hit the comments with your thoughts. Was it as cheesy and awful as it looks?

  1. I used to own it. As far as ancient video games go, it’s not too bad. It’s better with two players, though. The players control choppers that brave a war zone to pick up wounded soldiers and bring them back to the MASH unit. The player that rescues the most soldiers gets to play the surgery scene where you control some type of surgical tool to remove shrapnel from the patients. I’d recommend it to anyone who might be curious, and is a big fan of MASH.

  2. I was born in 1989, so Atari was before my time. Even the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was on the verge of being passe when I was a kid (that one, we did have).

  3. Not only have I played it, I own it. It’s not a bad game; better than a TV-based game has a right to be, anyway. Apparently there were plans for a second game involving an escaping Klinger, but it was never released:

The game that WAS released also had a port on the Texas Instruments TI-99/4A PC, though I haven’t played that one. There was also a version planned for the ColecoVision, and I’ve played the prototype of it. Not bad, but clearly unfinished; doesn’t play as smoothly as the 2600 version.

  4. I owned it. Got it for my 11th birthday from an aunt that knew I loved the show. It came with a green t-shirt that said M*A*S*H and had the red cross. Wore the game and the shirt out.
