Amazing pictures of a fan’s reproduction of the 4077th compound have been making their way around the Internet over the past week. A friend of mine sent me this link a few days ago after seeing it posted to FARK.com. The set of four images, two of which I’ve reproduced below, depict a very accurate reproduction of the 4077th, with a particular emphasis on the Swamp.
There’s no attribution included with the images, but I was able to track them — or at least similar images of what appears to be the same compound — back to this July 4th, 2008 post at HGTV.com’s Rate My Space website by Kraw27, which includes five images. Here’s Kraw27’s description of the reproduction:
This is my home away from home. The set from M*A*S*H. The Swamp (Hawkeye’s tent is exact in every detail. It also has a lot of hidden modern conveniences such as a mini fridge CD player TV. On Thursday nights it’s a great place to play a friendly game of poker.
I have the faintest recollection of seeing images like these or hearing about a fan-built compound years ago. It was probably this one. After all, how many can there be? If you’re the creator of this incredible reproduction or know anything about it, please contact me. I’d love to know more.

I actually read about this on Ken Levine’s blog the other day, and wondered if this was the same guy who constructed that fully funished replica of the Swamp in his backyard for him and his buddies to hang out in.
Man, what a great place to chill out.
I’d love to have a set up like that, serve some beers or martinis and play some poker with friends.

Tell me about the stove? Seems like I’m some episodes it was a 55 gallon drum and others it was a cast iron stove, but when Hawkeye got blinded it was in some kind of explosion… what stove was it really??
From all the photo references I can find it was a wood burning stove. I believe the explosion was just a plot device, We used a 30 gallon drum. The photo of the Swamp interior from the Smithsonian shows a 55 gallon, which I never understood, because it would make it almost impossible to get around in there. I hope this helps

David, would you be interesting in getting collectibles to put with the set. I have the world’s largest Mash memorabilia collection. I don’t have much from the actual show but I have a lot that I purchase from Distributors and wholesalers from 7 different countries. I have a DVD I made in the 80s when FX Super Collectors came to the house for there show. I’d love to send it to you so you can see my collection. I am impressed! I have to see this dvd now. As a fellow fan (no doubt not as big as you) I have started to recreate the gin still used in the production of the show. I am using 3d Printing to make the parts that are no longer available such as the petcocks and valves. Modern lab glassware will serve for the flasks. I’m in current communication with the curator who holds the original still and he will be photographing the article for me soon.

What tent did you use for the Swamp? I’d like to have a similar tent just for setting up in my back yard as a place to relax. I’d like the tent to be suitable for winter and summer alike. I cannot seem to find an Army surplus tent that looks the same.
The ones we used came from a surplus company in CA.It was a pyramid 16’X16′ canvas Military surplus tent. If I remember correctly, in the early 2000’s, it was $540 for the tent and $400 to have it freight shipped to FL. They are hot as hell in the summer, and if where you live has a lot of snow you will need to knock the snow off the tent from time to time. I hope this helps.

Can anyone tell me what type of chair they use in the swamp? It’s not the wooden desk chair but the one that looks like a fighter pilot chair I think? I’d love to find those or make some if it’s DIY’able. Thanks!
