2024 Year in Review

It’s very close, but this is not the latest I’ve published my annual Year in Review post. That honor goes to 2023 Year in Review, which was published on February 12th, 2024. I won’t bore you with the details but 2025 has been a very busy year for me so far. It’s a little frustrating because at the end of last year I managed to get quite a bit ahead, scheduling my weekly Caption This posts through the end of March. Yet here we are almost halfway through February and I’ve been too busy to devote much time at all to this website.

Here’s everything that happened in the world of M*A*S*H during 2024. “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” celebrated its 41st anniversary on February 28th. Our favorite sitcom celebrated its 52nd anniversary on September 17th followed by the 41st anniversary of AfterMASH on September 26th.

Rest in Peace

There were sadly several deaths in 2024. Scriptwriter Hank Bradford, who penned “Tell It to the Marines,” died on January 18th. Scriptwriter, executive story editor, and producer Dan Wilcox died on February 14th. Actor Kevin Brophy, who guest-starred in “Life Time” as well as three episodes of Trapper John, M.D. and an episode of AfterMASH, died on May 11th. Actor Donald Sutherland, who originated the role of Hawkeye Pierce in the 1970 film MASH, died on June 20th. Actress Teri Garr, who guest-starred in “The Sniper,” died on October 29th. And actor Art Evans, who guest starred in “Private Finance,” died on December 21st.

Update: TWoods passed along news of two other deaths in 2024: actor Joshua Bryant, who played Scully in “A Night at Rosie’s,” “Guerilla My Dreams,” and “Stars and Stripes,” died on June 25th and actor Whitney Rydbeck, who played Hondo in “Good-Bye Radar, Part 2” died on July 15th and

Other News

On January 1st, FOX aired a two-hour documentary titled “M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television,” featuring interviews filmed in 2014. Segments from these interviews were previously aired on MeTV in May 2015 as part of a special presentation of the series finale titled “MeTV Remembers the M*A*S*H Finale.” I started writing a review of the documentary after it aired and regret that I never got around to finishing it. That’s something I’d like to get done soon.

That’s honestly the only other news I reported last year. FOX rebroadcast “M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television” on May 27 but I didn’t know at the time. MeTV repeated “MeTV Remembers the M*A*S*H Finale” on November 11 but again I didn’t know about it at the time. Finally, on December 16th, Catchy Comedy (formerly Decades) announced plans to recreate the 1974-1975 CBS Saturday prime time lineup beginning Saturday, January 4th, 2025. I recall reading this somewhere but forgot to post about it. The “Catchy Flashback: Iconic 70s Saturday Night” programing block airs every Saturday from 8-11PM ET and consists of All in the Family, M*A*S*H, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, and The Carol Burnett Show.

Website Issues

Currently, all video and audio files here at MASH4077TV.com are not working. I will post an update soon. I’ve also been combating an increase in comment spam and e-mail plus, plus other e-mail issues.

Happy New Year

As always, I’m going to wrap up this Year in Review with a quote from the Season 9 episode “A War For All Seasons”:

Colonel Potter: “Here’s to the new year. May she be a damn sight better than the old one, and may we all be home before she’s over.”

There was another mention of New Year’s Eve in “Hot Lips and Empty Arms” during Season 2, plus jokes about New Year’s Eve or Day in “Yankee Doodle Doctor” (Season 1), “The Army-Navy Game” (Season 1), “Out of Sight, Out of Mind” (Season 5), “Your Hit Parade” (Season 6), and “Communications Breakdown” (Season 10).

I’m late, I know, but Happy New Year, M*A*S*H fans. I hope we can all stay healthy and happy and continue enjoying M*A*S*H throughout 2025.

  1. Thanks again RJ for putting this together. We lose more and more as time goes on. That stinks, but that’s life. The January 1st documentary was an excellent compilation of previously aired segments. It certainly didn’t feel like a rehash of those segments. I’m looking forward to your review.

Happy New Year to you and all your readers!

  2. I stumbled upon your website and I really do enjoy it, its very put together with a lot of care. I am just getting in to MASH and I do love to see dedicated hobbyists who put time and effort in some really great. Please keep up the great work!

  3. Thank you kindly to RJ for all your work on the site, it is a magnificent resorce.

Happy new year to everyone, and let us not forget that 2025 is also the 75th anniversary of the start of the real Korean War itself, in June.

There may be some M*A*S*H related commemorations at that time?
