The 12th episode of M*A*S*H aired 50 years ago today. “Dear Dad” aired for the first time on Sunday, December 17th, 1972 on CBS.

Here’s the capsule summary from my Episode Spotlight for the episode:

As Christmas approaches, Hawkeye writes his father a letter detailing various goings-on at the 4077th.

This is the first of three “Dear Dad” episodes but not the first episode to feature Hawkeye writing a letter to his father. He penned a letter to his father in “M*A*S*H — The Pilot” early in Season 1.

“Dear Dad” was one of 20 episodes included in The Hallmark Channel’s “M*A*S*H Bash 2007,” hosted by Wayne Rogers. The 12-hour marathon aired Monday, January 1st, 2007.

Check back next week for the next installment of 50 Years of M*A*S*H.
