To celebrate the 50th anniversary of M*A*S*H, I’m taking a weekly look back at what episode of M*A*S*H aired five decades ago on CBS.

Episode Title: “The Moose” (#5, 1×05)

The fifth episode of M*A*S*H aired 50 years ago today. “The Moose” aired for the first time on Sunday, October 15th, 1972 on CBS. It marked the first appearance of Jamie Farr as Corporal Klinger.

Here’s the capsule summary from my Episode Spotlight for the episode:

Hawkeye and Trapper are shocked and disgusted to learn that a soldier has purchased a South Korean woman as his personal servant.

Check back next week for the next installment of 50 Years of M*A*S*H.

  1. “It marked the first appearance of Jamie Farr as Corporal Klinger.” <– ummm… I thought that was in Chief Surgeon Who? You even write in the Episode Spotlight review that Klinger isn't in this episode.

This episode has not dated well. The way Sung-Lee talks, and the way her brother acts, is so stereotypical and clichéd that it would never ever happen today. Even if Hawk and Trappers intentions are clearly good.
