M*A*S*H on Television

Recently, TV Land returned M*A*S*H to its Monday-Friday prime time schedule, airing the series from 8-9PM. I’m not sure if this is a permanent change or not but it looks like M*A*S*H will be seen from 8-9PM at least through September. I don’t get TV Land on my cable system and find its website infuriating (can you look at the schedule here).

I’ve brought back the M*A*S*H on Television page, now updated to include ION Life, for anyone interested in knowing when and where to watch M*A*S*H on TV. Yes, the episodes are likely cut for time (I don’t actually know for sure that ION, ION Life and the Me-TV Network show edited episodes) but not everyone has the complete series on DVD. And sometimes, you just want to turn on the television and have it on in the background.

You won’t find any information on where M*A*S*H is seen on television internationally or on local stations in the United States. All of the information I had was woefully out of date, so I removed it.

  1. Alls I know is when I saw the show in that weekend marathon on Hallmark last month, they cut just a little bit more out that they had already cut, as well as the main titles were slightly sped up (like the “Rapid Play” feature on DVD players), so I guess maybe that’s why it was seldom seen in reruns for a while, I guess syndication had to butcher the reruns up even more to make room for more commercials.

Again, I HAVE read that the new maximum runtime for half hour shows without commercials will no longer be 21 minutes, but 18 1/2 minutes. Epic fail.

  2. 18 1/2 minutes?? Are you serious? They’ve butchered the MASH episodes as it is….And I noticed that the opening titles were sped up, too. I thought it might’ve been my cable, but then when it happened again for the others during the marathon….

My young kids are now noticing how butchered the MASH episodes are (as well as older shows and movies) so they just ask if we could watch ’em on DVD instead.

  3. Exactly. Old shows back in the day were like 26 minutes or so without commercials, so we’re basically losing 5-8 minutes of important footage from each episode, and often times, they cut out key scenes that make other sequences in the episode make no sense whatsoever.

Like with Leave it to Beaver, until I got DVDs of the show, I had no idea each episode actually had like a minute-long teaser narrated by Ward on the theme of that particular episode; “And that’s our story today on Leave it to Beaver.”

  4. Agreed, BDOR. When we bought the DVDs of MASH and Star Trek, it was almost fun to discover what scenes were cut out and how much of a difference it made with watching the entire uncut episodes….Many times my kids would say “I don’t remember that scene…”.

  5. Cool! Thanks pinkpagoda – I didn’t know Bing had this feature – very nice! I also see that Hallmark will be having another marathon on 9/10 – 12 hours long. But it will probably be the same as its last marathon – sped-up intros and more episode content cut out. It’s getting to be that I should probably have my own DVD “marathons” instead…. 😉 I sure hope that you all out there live in areas of the world where you can easily view MASH on DVD…Region 1 vs Region 2, etc…Then again, I don’t really know if the show was ever released on DVD other than Region 1.

  6. I know they do it on Memorial Day weekend, due to the Army tie in…. but Labor Day? Seems like it ought to be the office, or maybe show Norma Rae back to back all day long. LOL

Am I out of the loop, or is there a reason that we haven’t had a “name that picture” this week? I emailed RJ to see if he is ok, but haven’t heard back.

    1. Thanks for the concern. I had no power due to Irene from Sunday through Tuesday and still do not have Internet access at home. Hopefully things will return to normal by Tuesday of next week. No storm damage. I was pretty lucky compared to a lot of people who lost their homes or are still without power.
