Mike Farrell Talks New Book, M*A*S*H in WTTW Interview

Chicago PBS station WTTW interviewed Mike Farrell this past Friday (October 30th) for its The Friday Night Show. Most of the discussion focused on his new book, Of Mule and Man, which was released in May of this year. The book chronicles Farrell’s 2008 book tour for his autobiography, Just Call Me Mike, and his activism but there was a brief exchange about M*A*S*H. You can watch it at WTTW’s website (click on The Friday Night Show on the upper right and then October 30th, 2009). I have also embedded the video here. M*A*S*H comes up at about 20:30 and Farrell answers a few of the most common questions he is asked:

Farrell also talks about turning 70, his website, Mike Farrell Online, and his wife Shelley Fabares. Thanks to producer Marc for letting me know about this interview.

  1. Seriously? I never heard anything about Mike having come out with a new book – usually BCA is good for posting this type of news, but they never said a single thing about Mike coming out with a new book.

On another note… does there really need to be a book about someone’s book signing tour?

  2. I had no idea it came out either and it has been out since May. Then again, I only randomly stumbled upon Gary Burghoff’s autobiography when it came out this past June. Too many books, too little time, I suppose.

  3. Have you noticed though that when it’s the books of the people from your favorite shows, its their books that are the hardest to find? Alan’s first book was easy to find, but other than that, I never could find his other one, neither of Mike’s, and I can’t even find Gary’s.

OT – I almost never found Tom Bergeron’s book either, but I did and loved it, lol.

  4. I thought I would add that just in case you all didn’t know, another book about the show was just released a few months ago:

According to the publisher’s website, it’s over 800 pages, but unfortunately it’s $50 [gasp]…..And Amazon does not offer this book for sale. I need to add this to my Christmas list! 🙂

  5. You were being sarcastic about the “unfortunate” price, weren’t you? In all honesty, at 800 pages, I’d figure a book like thatwould run nearly $200, lol.

But 800 pages… wow… even Jeanette Miller couldn’t finish that in her little lifetime!

  6. In late May on a Friday night, Mike went on Hannity on Fox News; I think it was for his new book. However, when the interview moved on politics, he became quite passionate about what he was talking about! Awhile ago, he was on The O’Reilly Factor.
