Thirty years ago today, CBS premiered a new comedy based on a hit movie called M*A*S*H. Today, the show has evolved into much, much more. It’s a cultural icon, a television standard, and was a mainstay for American viewers for 11 years, 1972 to 1983. And while it has been off the air for over 19 years, it still thrives in syndication, bringing in new fans from new generations.

On May 17th, FOX aired a 30th Anniversary Reunion Special, bringing together all the surviving cast members for a two-hour special. This Saturday, September 21st, FX (which loses the rights to M*A*S*H in 2003) is airing a 16 hour thirtieth anniversary marathon.
