Here’s an unusual promotional spot connected to M*A*S*H. It’s for a repeat of a FOX special titled “TV Guide’s Truth Behind the Sitcoms 3” and it aired during the closing credits to an episode of Family Guy on Tuesday, June 27th, 2000.
“TV Guide’s Truth Behind the Sitcoms 3” premiered under a slightly different name, “TV Guide’s Truth Behind the Sitcom Scandals 3,” on Wednesday, February 9th, 2000 from 9-10PM ET. It focused on The Love Boat and M*A*S*H and featured cast members from both shows discussing controversies and scandals. Mike Farrell, Gary Burghoff, Larry Linville, Wayne Rogers, and Loretta Swit were the cast members from M*A*S*H interviewed for the special. Linville died on April 10th, 2000 so the special likely included one of his final interviews.
FOX repeated “TV Guide’s Truth Behind the Sitcoms 3” on Wednesday, June 28th, 2000 from 8-9PM ET, followed by “World’s Most Incredible: Animal Rescues 3” from 9-10PM ET.
The Biography Channel later reaired this special, and several others like it covering other sitcoms, during the spring and summer of 2008.
