To celebrate the 50th anniversary of M*A*S*H, I’m taking a weekly look back at what episode of M*A*S*H aired five decades ago on CBS.

Episode Title: “Yankee Doodle Doctor” (#6, 1×06)
Airdate: Sunday, October 22nd, 1972
Written By: Laurence Marks
Directed By: Lee Philips
Nielsen Rank: Unknown

The sixth episode of M*A*S*H aired 50 years ago today. “Yankee Doodle Doctor” aired for the first time on Sunday, October 22nd, 1972 on CBS.

Here’s the capsule summary from my Episode Spotlight for the episode:

Hawkeye and Trapper sabotage an official Army documentary about the 4077th and instead direct and star in their own honest if irreverent film.

General Clayton, played by Herb Voland, makes his debut in this episode. The character appeared in a total of seven episodes, more than any other general. Also, Marcia Strassman makes her second of six appearances as Nurse Margie Cutler in this episode.

CBS pre-empted M*A*S*H on Sunday, October 29th, 1972 to air the movie Yellow Submarine so check back in two weeks for the next installment of 50 Years of M*A*S*H.
