Last month, visitors to MASH4077TV.com voted “Edwina” their least favorite episode from Season 1. Even those of you who voted for other episodes may have guessed “Edwina” would take the poll by a landslide. It’s generally considered one of the worst episodes of the series, even by members of the cast and crew. I wouldn’t be surprised if it winds up being voted the least favorite episode of the series when the Great 2017 M*A*S*H Episode Poll wraps up.
A whopping 265 votes were cast. Every single episode received at least one vote. “Edwina” got 64 votes, which earned it 24% of the total. In second place was “Major Fred C. Dobbs” with 24 votes (9%) followed by “The Moose” with 22 votes (8%).

For the record, back in January 2015, “Tuttle” was voted the favorite episode from Season 1.
I ended up voting for “Edwina” but also considered casting my vote for “Major Fred C. Dobbs.” Both are weak episodes but both have some redeeming qualities. If I had to vote again, I’d probably go with “Major Fred C. Dobbs,” which just goes to show how fickle my opinion can be.

I voted for “Showtime”…I really enjoy most of the components of the episode, but the random parts with the showgirls make no sense to me. I feel like they break up the flow of the episode, and it would have run better if they had completely cut out the parts with the showgirls. That being said, this was a hard poll to vote in, mainly because I don’t watch the earlier seasons very much. Like RJ said, I am curious as to why “Sometimes You Hear the Bullet” was so high on the list. My understanding is that it’s one of the more iconic M*A*S*H episodes (especially of the earlier seasons). I also wonder why “Tuttle” was considered a least favorite…that’s always been one of my season 1 favorites.
Good comments – I agree. The showgirls did tend to break up the flow of the episode. And I’m wondering too why “Sometimes You Hear the Bullet” received so many votes….But, I was one of the “Edwina” voters….easy choice.
I voted Major Fred C. Dobbs. Although I think technically Edwina is a worse episode, I have a soft spot for it as it’s one of the first I remember watching in full so I can’t hate it.
I wonder why Tuttle got so many votes? I wonder if people misread.
I voted for “The Moose”. I find it to be the weakest of Season 1. The one really funny scene is the poker game where Radar is helping Hawkeye cheat but gets “blocked” by the nurse walking to the shower.
I am astounded that “Sometimes you hear the bullet” and “Tuttle” received so many votes in this poll — they are 2 of the best (if not the best) episodes of Season 1.
I voted for ‘The Moose.’ This episode marks the start of the Hawkeye as Social Justice Warrior and wasn’t a very interesting episode in the first place.
‘Edwina’ is the very first episode of M*A*S*H I saw. I have a special love for it because of that. Could not ever vote for it as a bad episode.
I voted “Edwina,” mainly because it’s such a poor episode: the focus is on a random guest character, rather than any of the main characters, and Edwina was such an awkward character anyway, and that just made it worse.
Otherwise, yeah, I too am surprised to see the likes of “Sometimes You Hear the Bullet,” “Tuttle,” and even “Yankee Doodle Doctor” so high on the list. I guess I can understand “The Moose,” I’ll agree it’s not the best episode, though I wouldn’t consider it one of the worst – same with “Cowboy.”
For anyone interested, WGN America is having an all-day M*A*S*H marathon until 10 pm tonight! 🙂 I know we were talking about some of our favorites above, and today it looks like they are playing them. “Tuttle” was just on, and now they are playing “Sometimes You Hear the Bullet.” Now I have to decide if I’d rather watch M*A*S*H or do homework… 😉
