  1. I’m fairly sure it’s “Bless You, Hawkeye”, where Sidney and Father Mulcahy are rumaging through wounded men’s personal belongings, looking for what makes Hawkeye sneeze and itch.

  2. Yep, that is definitely “Bless You, Hawkeye” Some of my favorite episodes feature Allan Arbus as Sidney Freedman!!

  3. “Bless You, Hawkeye” is from Season 9, I have a production script for that episode!

  4. Lol, I mean according to Charlie’s post, when he guessed it was a Season Ten episode.

Either way, I don’t watch any episodes from Seasons Eight through Eleven (save for “Goodbye, Farewell & Amen” (11×16)), the show became too dark/preachy/overly dramatic/etc for my taste… and ironically, Reader’s Digest recently named John Rappaport one of the top ten comedy writers of all time, yet he wasn’t on the MASHStaff until those later seasons.

  5. The end of the series does change and I do really like the first half dozen seasons, but M*A*S*H still made a great statement. I wrote a paper for one of my history classes (I am a history major) in which I used M*A*S*H to mark the social changes of the 1970s and 80s. There are not too many shows that have done that since.

I had not heard about John Rappaport being listed in Reader’s Digest. Funny you should mention him though, he produced “Bless You, Hawkeye. Great tie-in!!

  6. I agree, I like the first six seasons as well; Season Seven had some good episodes as well, but as I’ve said before, it’s like the “transition season”, you could feel the atmosphere of the show was about to shift… I remember once reading Alan Alda talking about how by Season Eight, the entire writing staff had been completely overhauled. I remember thinking to myself “that explains it”, lol.

“There are not too many shows that have done that since.” Except for maybe Seinfeld. ;P

  7. “There are not too many shows that have done that since.” I would also say Roseanne. Great social commentary!

  8. WOO HOO! I’ve been trying for weeks to get one of these challenges! I’m gonna celebrate by watching more M*A*S*H! 🙂
