Actor Corey Fischer, who appeared in the movie MASH and guest starred in an episode of the TV series, died earlier this month (June 6th) at the age of 75. He was one of just four actors to appear in both the movie and the TV series.

Fischer played Captain Bandini in the 1970 movie and later appeared as Captain Phil Cardozo in the Season 2 episode “5 O’Clock Charlie” (where he was credited as Corey Fisher).

Fischer also guest starred in a 1973 episode of the short-lived CBS sitcom Roll Out, created by Larry Gelbart and Gene Reynolds.

He had a regular role in NBC’s Sunshine in 1975. He guest starred in episodes of shows like All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Barney Miller, and Frasier. In 1978, Fischer helped found A Traveling Jewish Theatre.

Obituaries can be found at the San Francisco Chronicle Datebook and The Jewish News of Northern California.

  1. He was the guy in the movie who played the guitar while Ken Prymus sang the title song during the whole ‘Last Supper’ sequence.

    Funny guy. RIP!!

Seems we are losing so many cast members. Time goes on, sure, but it sure is tragic!!

  2. Corey was so cool, played the guitar and made the scene better with just a few lines of dialog! I’m sorry for his death, may his family and friends be comforted. Rest in Peace, Corey. God Bless your family.

  3. It always seemed strange to me that he appeared in just the one scene of 5 O’clock Charlie. Even a shorter character lifespan than Loudon Wainwright’s Captain Spaulding!

I wish they would have given Cardozo at least one other appearance to flesh out his character a little.

Maybe the writers just didn’t like characters that played guitar? 🙂

    RIP
