M*A*S*H Airing on Forces TV in the United Kingdom

M*A*S*H starts airing on a Forces TV in the United Kingdom today. The channel can be found on (Sky 264, Virgin 277 and Freesat 652). Two episodes of M*A*S*H will be seen each weeknight from 8-9PM (UK time) with repeats of the same two episodes from 11:30PM to 12:30AM. “Commander Pierce” and “Peace On Us” are airing tonight.

Forces TV airs a mix of news, documentaries, and a handful of TV shows from the United States. In addition to M*A*S*H, the channel also airs Hogan’s Heroes and The Phil Silvers Show. It is also adding The Unit tonight.

A Forces TV press contact confirmed that the channel will air M*A*S*H in its original aspect ratio (4:3 with black bars on the side to fit within a 16:9 widescreen image) and with a laugh track. The series famously aired without a laugh track on BBC2 in the late 1970s but in in recent years it has always aired with canned laughter in the UK. I believe M*A*S*H currently airs on True Entertainment in the United Kingdom, where it is also shown with a laugh track. Can anyone in the UK confirm that?

  1. I heartell that like with M*A*S*H, U.K. broadcasting has recently been removing the laugh track from HOGAN’S HEROES as well, citing they want to tone down the show’s humor and emphasize its more serious moments . . . which is really ironic, considering HOGAN’S HEROES had hardly any serious moments at all, it was always a straight-up sitcom, unlike M*A*S*H.
