I was watching this episode last night, and . . . *sigh*

For many years, people havebeen complained about how dated this episode is and hasn't stood the test of time very well with its seemingly clumsy execution in tackling a subject like homosexuality in the military - and given how this show is from the 70s and set in the 50s when homosexuality was still very much a taboo subject, I could sort of see that. Especially given how much the country had changed since then, Frank's homophobia was just another example of what a close-minded, arrogant jerkass that he is.

But the sad truth is homophobia is a thing again. I suppose it never really went away, but for eight years, it was being curbed, and LGBT Rights in America were being advocated, and as such, the LGBT community in America were finally given the basic human rights that any human being deserves to have regardless of who they are and what they are . . . just about all of which went right out the window just as soon as the election was over. And now that homophobia is an acceptable ideal again, this episode sudden seems all the more relevant all over again - yes, it still seems dated, and that's how sad this is when you think of how much the country has regressed back to outdated idealogies of decades past; there hasn't been a day so far this entire year where LGBT friends I have haven't been speaking out about the atrocities they and others like them are having to face in this world today (like those gay concentration camps in Russia, for example).
