Who Would You Cast?

Talk about all things M*A*S*H -- the novel, the film, the television series, even the play. Not to mention the spin-offs, merchandise, cast, crew and anything else you can think of to talk about.

I'm working on this one. I've often thought about who I would cast in a remake. I'm having trouble finding a Frank Burns and a Klinger, but for the most part, I've got the others. I'll post who I have so far...

Johnny Galecki (Radar)

Jessica Simpson (Maj. Houlihan)

Christian Bale (Hawkeye)

Seth Rogen (Trapper)

William H. Macy (Potter)

Giovanni Ribisi (Father Mulcahy)

Dennis Quaid (Lt.Col. Henry Blake)

Vincent Phillip D'Onofrio (Major Winchester)

Jake Gyllenhaal (B.J. Hunnicut)

I've got pictures for all these, but I can't figure out how to include them. All show a close resemblance to the original characters.

Recasting M*A*S*H? I can't even wrap my head around this idea. This is sacrilege I say!!! But, some of the choices y'all have come up with are excellent. Especially William Macy as Potter. Good pick.

Okay, here is who I would cast and a few things I would change if I could make a new MASH series. First, it would be set in the early 2000s in the War on Terror in Afghanistan to make it a bit more relevant to first-time viewers. Now, here's my new cast. I don't know how to add pictures to this forum, so feel free to google any name you don't know. Here goes...
1. Hawkeye-Patrick Dempsey
Patrick Dempsey played McDreamy on Grey's Anatomy. He's played a ladies' man doctor already, so Hawk would be a cinch for him.
2. B.J.-Eric Bane
Eric Bane played McSteamy, McDreamy's partner in crime on Grey's Anatomy. This is just an easy pick.
3. Father Mulcahy-David A.R. White.
This one is a absolute must for me. Unknown except in Christian circles, Mr. White is a wonderful comedic actor and the absolute only one who I feel could do half as good of a job as Mr. Christopher did...except maybe, maybe Owen Wilson.
4. Hot Lips-Heather Locklear
I don't know much about her, but my Mom said she'd be good for the part.
5. Frank Burns-Jim Knobloch
Jake Slicker from one of my other favorite shows, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, he'd be perfect for a love-lorn Frank pining for his Margaret!
6. Sherman T. Potter-Mark Harmon
Gibbs from NCIS, he's the epitome of a loving, yet firm leader.
7. Radar-Michael Cera
I don't know much about him, but his face looks like a Radar.
8. Klinger-Sasha Baron Cohen
The voice of King Juilen from Madagascar, I could imagine him quite easily as the section-eight seeking Lebanese!
9. Colonel Flagg-Nicolas Cage. If you've ever seen him as Ben Gates making a scene to get into Buckingham Palace in National Treasure 2, you know he's perfect for Flagg!
10. Dr. Freedman-Tom Selleck
The man. The 'Stache. The legend. Need I say more, Folks?
Oh, one last thing, to add some ethnic diversity without changing the ethnicity of the original cast, I'm adding an original character, who is played by Larry Sellers, a wonderful, yet underrated Native American actor who played Cloud Dancing in Dr. Quinn. I've seen him be serious, yet his dead-pan sarcastic humor gets me laughing every time!
The character I'd design for him is Dr. John Dial, a Lumbee Native American who is the newest Swamprat to join the group. Dr. Dial's speciality is that he is a talented pediatric surgeon sent to help the innocent Afghan children who get caught in the crosshairs of the war. He is quiet, deadpan in humor, and easily pained by the devastation caused by the war. Yet, he also shows his funny side by always managing to one-up and prank Frank and by constantly swiping Hawk's dates, be it Margie Cutler or Lt. Dish!
So, those are all my ideas! Know it was long, but thanks for reading!
