Re: MASH Podcast
The podcast seems to be looking at the show from today's viewpoint vs analyzing the 1960s and 1970s. Are we supposed to care if Henry cheats on his wife? Did he actually do that? Or Trapper John chasing after nurses? What actually happens? Harmless, playful flirting and keeping each other's morale u...

Re: Radar's voice changed
Actually she yelled a lot in the later seasons IMHO it's a matter of semantics really. She shrieked in the early seasons because Swit was younger and could hit those high notes. As she aged it was tougher to do that. She yelled in the later seasons but you could hear that it was a lower octave. Eve...

Re: Radar's voice changed
Yeah. Gary Burghoff was already 29 when he was cast as Radar in 1972 for the TV series. He was better as the squeeky voiced teenager drafted into a MASH unit then he was in 1979 when he was leaving. His natural voice didn't reflect the naive sevant we loved so much. But by then the show was into its...

Re: Has anyone met any of the cast members?
Yeah kinda forgot about some of those early episodes,..If memory serves wasn't the outfit she wore when she visited Buzz Brighton kinda trampy? Yes indeed, that's one of those "shorty shorts" episodes which had the famous white turtleneck as her co-star in the Buzz Brighton scene. They al...

Re: Has anyone met any of the cast members?
^^^ You would need to ask her that directly. But the early seasons certainly didn't shy away from the sexy Houlihan innuendo. Those uniforms were not in any way "standard". Wardrobe definitely custom fitted those to her. Or the t-shirts, they were fitted pretty tight. The shorts and halter...

Re: Has anyone met any of the cast members?
It would be rare to meet any of them now. They're all in their 70s or 80s and generally spend their time out of the spotlight. Swit apparently spends her time in NYC, occasionally walking around with her little dog in a baby stroller. Alda rarely makes any public appearance other than to promote som...

Re: Season 6 General Discussion
There is a wonderful post out just today by none other than MASH writer Ken Levine about the season six episode, The Merchant of Korea which followed the heavily melodramatic two parter, Comrades in Arms. The episode itself is very contrived with the premise that somehow Charles takes advantage of H...

Re: Rate them as actors,..
If you want to see how versatile Harry Morgan was watch him as Gen Steele in "The general flipped at dawn", then watch "change of command" or any episode from season four,..it's almost like watching two different people.. I was going to mention that too. Morgan was as wacky as y...

Re: Rate them as actors,..
It sort of goes from episode to episode and the writing behind those. Actors are only as good as their writers and producers. Lame scripts and poor plots will make any actor look bad. Vice versa, good scripts, superior writing and excellent cinematography can make pretty people who can't act look li...

Re: Favorite M*A*S*H lines
The classic rant from Adam's Ribs S3E11. Great writing and delivery. Hawkeye: "I didn't hear you say that. Because it isn't possible. It's inhuman to serve the same food, day after day. The Geneva Convention prohibits the killing of our taste buds!" "I simply cannot eat the same food ...

Re: Season 8 General Discussion
Definitely a heavy-handed moralistic and maudlin season. The actors look tired and the producers were probably the same, but given that CBS didn't want MASH to end and wanted to milk the ratings right down to mediocrity, I guess they had to carry on. Season 7 really set up the decline with many bad ...

Re: M*A*S*H Helicopter markings?
They're US mil registration/serial numbers. All military aircraft have them. Usually a chopper like that might have had the USAF logo there, but given that there wasn't a whole lot of space to put a serial number on a helo like that, they might have squeezed it in on that vertical stabilizer. There'...

a couple of more: Rainbow Bridge... Hawkeye and Frank get into a dispute on the bus bringing the wounded to the 4077 after Burns screws up triage and tells Hawkeye that it's mutiny and he's in charge of the bus/triage. Hawkeye: Mutiny on the bus, it was a B movie. They couldn't afford a Bounty. Alle...

Radar, go. Stay. I said go ...And I said stay.
She outranks you... She's got more things on her uniform. She's got more things in her uniform... but go!
I'm gonna break his leg, set it, and break it again! Feel that. If he lets everybody feel them, there won't be anything left but a package of lint.
