For the record, back in November 2015, “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” was voted the favorite episode from Season 11.

Personally, I voted for “The U.N., the Night, and the Music” mostly because it’s such a bland episode.

As has been the case with every round of voting in the Great 2017 M*A*S*H Episode Poll, I wonder if some people voted for “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” without realizing the poll asked about their LEAST favorite episode. On the other hand, there are many fans who don’t enjoy the series finale, so it’s entirely possible it legitimately is the least-favorite episode among visitors to MASH4077TV.com.

  1. Odd GFA gets voted favorite and least favorite. I have to assume RJ’s right and alot of people voted thinking it was for favorite, or else the results don’t make any sense.

    I voted for “The Joker is Wild” because, well, BJ sucks. The whole jealousy over Trapper so late in the series was dumb, all the jokes (despite all being faked) were weak, and the entire thing has a glaring plot hole that is obvious, but purposely ignored, in that the bet was BJ has to get EVERYONE in 24 hours. The only one he “got” was Hawkeye, so technically he still lost. With the jokes being as weak and lame as they were, anyone could have gotten all of them anyways in 24 minutes, let alone 24 hours.

    It’s an episode that has a good idea, but that fails in every way possible because of terrible writing.

    Also, BJ nailing Hawkeye’s boot to the floor at the beginning wasn’t a “joke” at all. It was cruel, especially after we saw how hard it was for Hawkeye to get new boots in “For Want of a Boot”. Now Hawkeye has a hole in both the top and bottom of his boot for the freezing cold winters. Thanks BJ. Hawkeye was right, the jokes were a bit more original in the old days…so was the writing.

    1. The Joker is Wild is one of those what is the point episodes. I don’t mind Hawkeye getting a little taste of his own medicine. However, this episode is not funny or in good nature when playing a 24 hour prank on Hawkeye. B.J. still being jealous of Trapper that late in the series is unrealistic and poor writing. GFA is okay as a finale for the series.

  2. My vote was for “Run For the Money”. It was just terrible. Margaret and her vendetta against the 8063rd’s head nurse, the race between Father Mulcahy and “Jackrabbit” LeMasters, and Charles’s tape from his stuttering sister made this episode unwatchable.

  3. I’m really surprised at “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” being picked as the worst. Don’t get me wrong, I understand how some people may not like it as much as I did, especially given the divide in the fanbase given the dramatic turns the series took over the years, but as the other poll shows, it is a much-loved episode for the series, so I’m inclined to believe a lot of people misunderstood the poll.

    That being said, I voted for “The Joker is Wild.” In the past, I didn’t think so as much, but over the years, I’ve grown to feel like the late-series prank episodes tended to feel a lot more forced than early seasons. I did like “April Fools” more during my recent rewatch, but besides that, they didn’t really work that well IMO. And “The Joker is Wild” was probably the worst. The pranks were weak, the ending was flawed as 007 pointed out, and there’s the question of how far it went, affecting Hawkeye’s morale to such a huge extent. Would they really allow that to happen in a war zone, when lives depended on Hawkeye? Sure, there might have been a lull in the fighting, but you never know when wounded may show up.

  4. I don’t understand this at all. I certainly hope it was a mistake and people thought they were voting for a favorite, because GFA the worst of season 11? Taste is subjective of course, but I just don’t see it.

    I voted for “Who Knew?” Not a bad idea, but Hawkeye’s eulogy in which he only focuses on the main cast while ostensibly addressing the entire camp, is painfully sappy.

    I could have just as easily said “Hey, Look Me Over” or “The Joker is Wild,” however.

    1. Always felt the same about Who Knew. I get that those were his closest friends (and the main cast), but still seemed like it’d be pretty offensive to basically everyone else sitting in there, and turning the eulogy for a dead nurse into the “Hawkeye show” like M*A*S*H itself is just terrible.

    2. Precisely the reason I voted for ‘Who Knew?’ First off, someone falling that desperately in love with Hawkeye within a few days of knowing him is remarkably unbelievable. Then addressing only the main cast in the mess tent while all others sat there makes it uncomfortable to watch, especially after they made a big deal about him ignoring Kellye in favor of the other nurses in the very first episode of this season.

      Bad episode overall, but then most of this season was meh!!

      1. He even skips right over Kellye when naming people, and shes the only person in the front row he doesn’t name!

  5. I voted for … well, whichever one it was there BJ has to cut a line from a helicopter to leave a soldier under fire, and then later say that the act “Made me a soldier.” (I had to go through the Episode Guide to look up this one during the voting … and it’s not worth it to me to do so again.) What’s gnawed at me about this episode ever since the original airing in 1982 is that this particular sequence seemed to mark a huge, seriously-minded, and (quite honestly) really out of character turning point for BJ in this final season … which was then immediately completely ignored in all the remaining episodes.

    Ditto what was said previously regarding the “how quickly she fell in love” problem with “Who Knew?” And, someday I’d love to hear from anyone who was involved in the 11th season writing crew explain how “The Joker Is Wild” ended up getting filmed without correcting the glaring flaw in the script for this episode. (Ken Levine: Any chance you can assist on this via your own blog???)

    Okay, now after 11 months of this, can we finally get around to voting “Edwina” as the all-time worst episode?

    1. The episode you’re thinking of is “Bombshells”. That was when Hawkeye and Charles attempt to convince everyone Marilyn Monroe would be coming to visit the 4077th.

  6. How MASH should have ended as a genuine comedy:
    Season 3 Blake goes home –not killed.
    Season 4th
    1] Margaret Engagement/Margarets Marriage-she gets killed off in the plane crash;
    2] Burns gets a Section 8;
    3}Hawkeye mistaekenly gets reported dead..AND GOES HOMe Into the SUnset

    By the way Bombshells was a really weird episode –how can wounded from the lines be there when at the time MASH 4077 was Twenty mileS behind the Front Lines..near Uijonbu?
