Continuing the Name That Episode Game

February 7th, 2017 Update: Due to strong support in the comments, the Name That Episode game will continue for a fourth round. Name That Episode IV will start next week on Tuesday, February 14th. I’m going to try to put together statistics from Name That Episode III this weekend.

Original Post:

As many of the regular visitors to MASH4077TV.com are aware, the current round of the popular Name That Episode game ends tomorrow. Name That Episode III kicked off in September 2014. Before that, Name That Episode II ran from March 2012 to August 2014. For the record, the first round started in April 2009 and ended in March 2012.

I’m more than happy to continue posting bi-weekly images from M*A*S*H for another round, perhaps as early as next week. But is there interest in starting another round? Does anyone have any suggestions or changes to make Name That Episode IV more exciting? Are the images too difficult? Too easy? Typically, I try to mix things up each week posting an image of a character from M*A*S*H followed by an image of a tent or a wall or a door.

  1. I don’t really have any suggestions, but I definitely think it should continue! 🙂 I have fun trying to guess the episode each day. I haven’t posted as much lately because I’m in class/clinical at the times you post usually, so by the time I get around to looking someone has already guessed it. But I still have fun looking at it. If you do decide to change it, I think you should still have some sort of other weekly or bi-weekly feature.

  2. I vote to continue with it. I enjoy looking forward to the images every Tuesday and Thursday and the challenge of guessing the episode it was taken from.

    1. I can try but I’m not sure how much vaguer I can get. Some of the images of doors were, in my opinion, very difficult and yet almost every time someone figured it out.

Also, I don’t want to only use vague images to give fans who aren’t as familiar with the show a fighting chance. But I’ll see if I can throw in a good number of stumpers.

  3. I found many of the images in round 3 to be very difficult. In the previous rounds I could usually at least come close with a guess, but with this most recent round there were a good number of images that I had trouble finding in the episode even after knowing the answer and watching the episode again on DVD.

One possible suggestion if you do round 4 — how about featuring minor actor images in each week’s contests? I am guessing that most if not all episodes feature at least one minor character — Igor, Goldman, Kelly, the various Nurse Able’s/Baker’s, various enlisted men, etc.

I’m sure posting these each week’s takes a good bit of work, so I understand if you stop posting them, but I do enjoy checking in twice a week to see if I can figure out the answer.

  4. I vote to continue! I don’t visit this site as much as I would like, and I very rarely comment, but I do like this series. My question is, what will happen when the random episode discussion runs out of episodes to discuss? We could do AfterMASH…

    1. Good idea! AfterMASH would probably be a great challenge, considering that it has not been in syndication since airing (at least not that I am aware of).

    2. I may take a break for a while and focus on some other projects here at MASH4077TV.com but I do plan to eventually review AfterMASH.

  5. Okay! There’s clearly a lot of support for Name That Episode IV so I am happy to announce it will start next Tuesday (February 14th) with the same rules.

  6. I’m glad Name That Episode will continue. It’s one of my favorite parts of this site, and my husband enjoys it too. Thanks for all your time and hard work RJ.

  7. I’ve not been a big fan of the features. (Plus, it seems to be just the same few people playing and winning it, too.) But, here’s a suggestion to give it some variety: For Round 4, just do screen grabs of either the director or the writer credits.
