In my view, this is the best MASH episode of all time. The plot is simple (in the uncomplicated sense) and the script is superb! The smart-arse one-liners bouncing around could only work with some out-siders present - in this case Captain Pak (the surprisingly wonderful Pat Morita) and Sidney Freedman (Allan Arbus). The episode is at its best when it's looking in at the poker table in The Swamp, though the various comings and goings are a bit distracting. I really like Pak/Morita, as he lets rip with great comic lines with the most dead-pan expression I have ever seen, such as when he's called with a suspected straight - "Did I get the straight? Two, three, four, five - nine" and throws his cards in resignation. As soon as John Ritter looses off the gun, it breaks down, but finishes on a high right at the end. Brilliant - absolutely brilliant!

Playing poker was a recurring theme going back to season 1 (they had to do something when they weren't working), but in "Deal me out", a poker game is the centerpiece for this very funny episode. It's very much an ensemble effort. Everybody shines, especially Pat Morita, who almost steals the show.
