I love how this show handled its experimental episode like this. These types of episodes usually manage to make the most of of the unique aspects, while giving great character moments as well, and that was definitely true for this episode. Beyond the race-against-the-clock aspect of the episode, I loved how they used the different characters to serve the plot, like with Klinger pretending to be Potter, Charles giving blood, and especially BJ having to deal with the dying patient and his friend. Also, this has one of the more memorable lines from Mulcahy IMO (second only to the line about doctors warming their hands over bodies from "The Interview") as he asks God to take the dying soldier sooner rather than later.

The one issue I did have with the episode was the somewhat awkward start, where they were playing cards near the landing spot for the helicopters.

The medical staff racing against time to save a man from certain paralysis unless they can replace a part of his aorta.

It was a great idea.

Unfortunately, this is season 8, and this episode unfortunately is marred by corny dialogue, and hammy over-acting. Alan Alda wrote quite a few episodes for the show, and while the story ideas were usually good, the scripts weren't on the same level as some of the other writers.

This is one of my all time favorites. I believe this was a first for a medical show.
Along with "Point of View", it was part of the reason that M*A*S*H was so popular. They broke bounds an many fronts, and these two episodes are excellent examples.

I know that the clock, and real time was also done by the show E.R. Not sure if the patient view has been done, I thought that E.R did that as well.
