Fan Fiction

Talk about all things M*A*S*H -- the novel, the film, the television series, even the play. Not to mention the spin-offs, merchandise, cast, crew and anything else you can think of to talk about.

Post by Garbage Officer »

I thought I'd share a few of my fanfics with you. I'm curenetly writing a brand spanking new fic, but I'll post it when it's finished. :)

The Simple Life: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2310735/1/The_Simple_Life
Several short stories from different character's POV during early childhood and how they were shaped into the people they later became but such small innocent incidents

Replacement: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4022495/1/Replacement
A story about BJ being Trapper's replacement.

Strings: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4035405/1/Strings

I'll have to go through those this evening, they sound really interesting.

The only fanfic I ever really wrote for the show pokes fun at the ongoing snafu with people always waking Radar up in the middle of the night to make insignificant phone calls stateside.

I have attempted to write others before, but they didn't turn out the way I had anticipated; these include a "lost" story that filled in the gap between Seasons Three and Four (Radar having to phone Lorraine regarding Henry's death, Hawkeye being given his R&R, Trapper receiving his orders to go home, etc), and an attempt to give B.J. a series of spin-off fanfics about him returning to civilian life.

It's a hard show to write fanfics for, because they pretty much covered it all in eleven years: generally, when you have a comedy show, fanfics tend to be dramatic because fans want to delve deeper into the characters' minds and such, likewise, dramatic shows tend to have more light-hearted fanfics... but M*A*S*H was both, it was comedic and dramatic, and unlike most shows, it actually did delve deep into the characters' minds, and we saw them grow and develop as the show progressed.

Those are really good Garbage Officer. I especially liked the BJ one.

I have a couple of ideas for fanfic but I'm a bit lazy in getting round to it.

Aww, thanks. I do have others but either they're half started ones and I wouldn't link to a WIP or they were some of my first fanfics and therefor rubbish. lol! My problem is I don't have enough ideas to write stories half the time.

Those are some great stories Garbage Officer! And the same to your story, Big Daddy!

Sometimes I think about writing "lost" fan-fic episodes of M*A*S*H, but I never really tried it. I once had a similar idea to Big Daddy's (the one about bridging together the events of "Abyssinia, Henry" and "Welcome to Korea"), but like I said I never really delved into it. It would included how Henry's death and Trapper's departure effected everyone in the camp, and Radar suffering a breakdown.

I wrote a short story yesterday about Hawkeye's Breakdown that happened prior to GFA. It's mostly how the others cope with the aftermath of what happened.

I'm currently writing something set after the war. Not sure how it's going really.

I just finished reading these fics, and I really liked them; they were all good, short-but-sweet, but still good. Amazing that Hawkeye and Charles were able to have a moment... that only happened on the show like what... once? The father discussion? I also liked the childhood stories, and it was sweet seeing where Potter got his love of horses from. I also especially liked how Hawk could since B.J.'s mild frustration, and tried to explain to him that he's not Trapper's replacement, he would've still been brought to A MASH unit irregardless, he just happened to have been brought to that one.

Now I'm really interested reading about Hawk's breakdown later today, I've often tried to visualize the events that led to his "arrest", especially him driving the jeep through the Officer's Club.

Most of my fics tend to stay on the short side of things. Long stories don't go well with me but I have written some. If I got an idea for a M*A*S*H story that would run, I'd go with it.
Yeah, Hawkeye & Charles never really bonded much and the more I think about it, the more alike I see those two characters. Perhaps a reason why they don't get along? Anyway, I really enjoy writing Charles' character. I think he's a good one to explore.
I also felt bad for BJ when he first arrived in Korea and Hawkeye couldn't have been less bothered by his arrival if he tried, lol! I'm pretty sure the whole story evolved from that moment.
This is the story that inspired me: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4604746/55/More_Glimpses
She wrote the little scene just as I imagined it would be.

I like to bring one of my favoruite things ever into the fandom I'm writing about.
So here you have it guys, zombies at M*A*S*H. Yeah, I'm serious.

I've just started this and here's a link to YT where chapter one is posted. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7293860/1/C ... e_the_Dead
We'll see how it goes. I hope people enjoy it, weird as it most likely will be.

Dalton, you rendition of the Season Three and Four bride sounds much better than what I attempted to write years ago, because believe it or not, I don't recall ever writing Radar having a breakdown over Henry's death... I just remember Frank pressuring him to phone Bloomington to break the news to Lorraine that he didn't make it, but Radar couldn't bring himself to do so.

Okay, now here's a couple of fanfic plots I almost wrote about, but never did:

1. There were a lot of heat wave episodes, and some cold snap episodes, and although it only snowed on the show like twice or so, I was going to write an episode where choppers and ambulances have trouble getting wounded to the 4077th because of a blizzard... but I didn't write it because I wasn't sure if there was ever an actual blizzard documented or recorded during the Korean War, so I wasn't sure if I was about to write something accurate or not. There also to be a subplot involving Potter holding a snowman building contest, the winner(s) getting R&R once the snow melted.

2. This is actually based on events that actually happened to me (what with me being the real-life Radar O'Reilly, lol), but anyshoe, there's a new program where the MASH units rotate their nurses, and Radar ends up befriending a nerdy, bespectacled nurse whom he seems to have everything in common with, and after some time has passed, their friendship strengthens, to the point where Radar ends up falling completely in love with her... but the problem is she's actually already taken (she's an item with a surgeon at another MASH unit).

I also had an idea for a fic in which Hawkeye unwittingly upsets B.J.: because twice B.J. had fallen off the fidelity wagon (CArrie Donovan and Aggie O'Shea), and although B.J. wouldn't mention any of this to Peggy, Hawkeye suggests maybe Peggy might have some similar issues that she wouldn't tell B.J. whenever he gets home after the war.
