For the record, back in October 2015, “‘Twas the Day After Christmas” and “Where There’s a Will, There’s a War” were voted the favorite episodes from Season 10.

Personally, I voted for “That’s Show Biz” because the episode is too busy and Fast Freddie is too annoying.
In my Episode Spotlight review of the episode, I suggested it would’ve worked much better without Fast Eddie or Brandy. My guess is a lot of fans agree with me.

I’m surprised to see so many votes for “Sons and Bowlers.” Is it the bowling storyline that bothers people? It has to be because the Hawkeye/Charles storyline is very well done.

  1. Yea “That’s Show Biz” sucks. Fast Freddy and Brandy are probably some of the worst guests to be on the show in the entire 11 year run, and both in the same episode. I’d probably rate this in the bottom 5, maybe bottom 3 episodes of the series.

Like RJ I’m surprised Son’s and Bowlers got so many votes. That Charles and Hawkeye storyline is probably one of the best story lines of the entire series. That scene when Charles tells Hawkeye about his family life growing up, ending with the line about while Charles had a father, Hawkeye had a dad, is one of the most touching and beautiful moments of all of MASH. It’s also helped, as always, by David Ogden Stiers’ fantastic acting.

  2. Season 10 only had one somewhat decent episode, and that’s “Twas the Day After Christmas,” otherwise, the rest of the season as a whole is terrible.

    1. Heh that’s a bit harsh! There were some decent ones in there. Communication Breakdown, the Snap Judgement’s, Holy Mess, and Sons and Bowlers are all decent I’d say. They’re no seasons 1-3 but they’re better than 99% of all other TV.

  3. This season, there seemed to be a very notable change in the comedic writing style. I’m having a hard time describing it, except to say that it had a kind of “cheesy 80s sit-com” feeling to it a lot of times, and for this reason, I can’t really blame people for not caring for this season as much, especially if they prefer the comedic side of MASH as a comedy. Honestly, many of the season’s highlights for me were in the more serious episodes. You mentioned one, with the great Hawkeye/Charles story in “Sons and Bowlers,” and I also love “Follies of the Living – Concerns of the Dead,” (though, like the episode “Dreams,” I can easily see why some people may not care for it as much).

That being said, I did kind of warmed up to the comedy more than I expected during my recent rewatch of the season, and ended up enjoying the majority of the season in its own way. However, the one episode the episode I felt the cheesy writing style became a bit too much was “That Darn Kid.”

  4. Picking my least favorite episode for the tenth season was really hard because this is my least favorite season. I voted for “ Picture This”. Not only is this the worst episode of the season but my least favorite episode of the whole series. I cannot stand that episode (my apologies to those who enjoy it). The petty and ridiculous squabbling really irritates me and makes me want to smack all three surgeons upside the head.

  5. You can count me in with those who disliked “That’s Show Biz” due to Fast Freddy and Brandy. I don’t skip many episodes when I watch a string of them in a row…..but, this episode would be one that I would indeed skip.

  6. My vote went to ‘Wheelers and Dealers.’ BJ is santimonious and acting like he’s better than all of them at the 4077th, and this episode showed his true nature exactly. His colossal ego of not wanting Peg to work is displayed in other episodes, but his behavior in this one was just over the top. Ugh!!
