Last month, visitors to MASH4077TV.com voted “Abyssinia, Henry” their least favorite episode from Season 3. Once again, the vote was close. “Abyssinia, Henry” received a total of 24 votes, or 11% of the total vote. The runners-up, “Private Charles Lamb” and “Love and Marriage” both got 20 votes (9%). “The Consultant” ranked fourth with 19 votes (8%), followed by “Iron Guts Kelly” with 17 votes (7%) and “Adam’s Ribs” with 15 votes (also 7%).

A total of 228 votes were cast, up a tiny bit from the 224 votes for March’s “Least Favorite Episode from Season 2” poll. Every single episode received at least one vote.

For the record, back in March 2015, “Adam’s Ribs” was voted the favorite episode from Season 3.

In the comments to my post about last month’s poll, concerns were raised about whether people are voting without realizing the poll is asking them to pick their least favorite episode. That may be a factor again this month, although it’s also possible many people dislike “Abyssinia, Henry” due to the tragic ending.

Personally, I couldn’t pick a least favorite episode from Season 3. I considered voting for “White Gold” because it’s not a great episode but Edward Winter is pitch perfect as Colonel Flagg, so I can’t in good conscience call it my least favorite episode of the season. I also thought about voting for “Life with Father” or “House Arrest” before ultimately deciding not to vote at all.

Which episode did you vote for and why? For those of you who voted for “Abyssinia, Henry,” what don’t you like about the episode?

Be sure to vote in this month’s poll. Pick your least favorite episode from Season 4.

  1. My vote went to “A Full Rich Day.” That episode makes no sense, and it wasn’t a good one anyway.

Once again, the results boggle my mind. “Private Charles Lamb”? I thought many people enjoy that one for the absurdity of Radar saving the little lamb. “Adam’s Ribs”? Isn’t that a fan favorite? I guess I can see why “House Arrest” would be voted so highly, I know a lot of people were turned off by the whole rape joke and all (and even Larry Gelbart admitted it years later); it’s personally one of my favorites of Season 3. I also don’t mind “Iron Guts Kelly,” “The General Flipped at Dawn,” and “Rainbow Bridge,” so I’m not sure why they were voted so highly.

  2. I voted for Iron Guts Kelly…I just felt like the plot was a little too bizarre, even for M*A*S*H. The general’s death was treated like comedy (which I think is pretty rare for the show), and the way they were dragging his body around the camp was a little strange.

I think it’s interesting that Abyssinia Henry was voted as the least favorite. I don’t like the fact that Henry died, but I thought the way they did it was carried out very well. I also love Private Charles Lamb, so I’m unsure as to why that one would be voted least favorite.

May’s poll is going to be interesting…I like Season 4 so much that I’ll probably have a hard time picking a least favorite episode! 🙂

  3. I voted for “Life with Father” but only half heartedly. Season 3 is by far my favorite of the series, so there are no episodes that I refuse to watch. I have felt that the writers and actors really hit their stride in this season and it was solid from start to finish.

    1. “Life with Father” is one of those episodes, I find, that even though it may not be one I would go out of my way to watch, it’s still not a bad episode, and I still enjoy it when I do watch it.

  4. I voted for ‘The Consultant.’ It’s a good episode, but the whole alcohol consumption sanctimony from Hawkeye to Dr. Borelli felt forced. That was the one thing that made me dislike this episode.

    1. I found that odd as well – Hawkeye boozes his brains out all the time, and has even operated while hungover, so for him to take issue with Borelli being drunk and unfit to operate made Hawkeye seem like a hypocrite, so of like a pot-and-kettle thing.

  5. I found it hard to vote in this one as I think all the episodes have something to recommend them. In the end I went for Payday because it’s the least interesting to me.

  6. How is this the least favorite episode of the season?!? This might be one of the top 5 episodes of the show, or heck of any show. Sure it has a very sad ending, but it’s such a great, powerful, and memorable episode.

Like Seoul City Sue I voted for The Consultant, mainly because Dr. Borelli, despite being Alan Alda’s father, is a pretty big turd in both his episodes.

    1. Also it almost tied for most favorite episode of the season in a separate poll here-how is that possible? Can people not read? Did they think they were voting for favorite episode? I don’t get it. Check out results of poll for favorite of the season….

  7. I voted for “House Arrest”, as I think that no one deserves that kind of treatment by a superior officer, even Frank.

  8. This is ridiculous. Abysinnia Henry is brilliant television, with hilarious parts and heartbreaking parts, even before the death of henry, you have Henry saying goodbye to Radar in the office and then the chopper pad. When I first saw it years ago, I hadn’t seen many episodes, I think Iron Guts or Officer of the Day was my first so it didn’t have its full impact but rewatching series 1-3, there are many poignant moments when you know how Henry’s story ends. I also do not know why General Flipped At Dawn is in the top 10, come on…..To be honest, Season 3 is a strong season overall, I voted for Private Charles Lamb just because it is OK rather than terrible.

  9. I voted for “House Arrest” because I thought it was just not up to their usual standards. Frank acting like a jerk, Hawkeye reaming out Margaret, Radar and his elevator shoes, and worst of all, Margaret changing her testimony about Frank being attacked made this episode unwatchable.
