Most Fans Have Watched An Episode of M*A*S*H At Least Seven Times

Last month’s poll topic was “Most Times You’ve Watched an Episode of M*A*S*H” and the results honestly surprised me. I did not expect the overwhelming majority of people to say they’ve watched an episode at least seven times and potentially more. If I’d known so many people watch episodes so many times, I would’ve included more options in the poll, like 10 times or even 15 times.

A total of 227 votes were cast last month. That’s the most votes since April’s poll.

Here are the full results:

7+ (85%, 194 Votes)
4 (5%, 12 Votes)
6 (3%, 7 Votes)
5 (2%, 5 Votes)
3 (2%, 4 Votes)
1 (1%, 3 Votes)
2 (1%, 2 Votes)

Total Voters: 227

Personally, I voted for 5 times but it’s entirely possible I have seen certain episodes 6 or 7 times (or even more). I like to keep track of the episodes I’ve seen but I’ve only been doing that since 2001. I know for a fact I’ve seen “M*A*S*H — The Pilot” at least five times. I’ve only seen “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” all the way through twice. Most episodes I’ve seen two or three times.

However, I started watching M*A*S*H in 1998 when it began airing on FX. Those first few years aren’t reflected in my viewing record and that’s when I was watching the show whenever I could. I’m guessing I probably saw each episode twice during that time period. If so, that means like most fans I have seen a lot of episodes at least seven times.

Hit the comments with your thoughts. Does anyone else keep track of the episodes they’ve watched?

  1. For once, I actually didn’t vote in the poll, mainly because for someone who hardly goes a day without watching M*A*S*H, and having seen many episode countless numbers of times (particularly when I go through binges), I felt like this was kind of a silly question.

  2. Except for GFA (too painful and emotional for me to watch repeatedly), I’ve watched them all so many times to count – especially the Christmas episodes as well as “A War for All Seasons”, all of which we pull out to watch about this time every single year. Sometimes I’ll just pull out a season, stick in the DVD and let them all play, one disc at a time. I’ve recently converted them to video files, of which I watch on my Roku via a large jump drive. Instant MASH when needed. 😉

So, because I’ve seen them all so many times, I do not keep a record of which ones I watch. I just watch and enjoy! 🙂

  3. There are some episodes in some seasons that are a must watch for me and make me laugh every time I watch them. I’ve seen ‘The Abduction of Margaret Houlihan’ – my most favorite episode at least more than 10 times.

I don’t keep a record of what I’ve watched or how many times, but if I come across an episode I like, I definitely watch it.

  4. I started watching MASH when we first got a Sky TV box and it was showing on Paramount Comedy every night with a double bill at 7pm. For a while, they just showed seasons 1-3 then gradually added new seasons on. I stopped watching as regularly from season 7 onwards but still caught some episodes occasionally. As a result, I feel like I am most familiar with seasons 1-5, as they repeated them so many times. The DVDs started coming out in 2003 and I got the first two for my birthday and then collected them all as they came out. There are some episodes that I rewatch a fair amount when celebrations or deaths occur or just when I feel like putting an episode on so episodes like Abyssinia Henry, in combination with the times I saw it on TV and DVD, must be at least 10-15 times whereas the later seasons I have only watched some episodes about 3-4 times.
