Happy Halloween from M*A*S*H

The following is an expanded version of a post originally published on October 31st, 2012.

Only episode of M*A*S*H dealt with Halloween. It “Trick or Treatment” from from Season 11, originally broadcast on November 1st, 1982. It was actually the first episode produced for Season 11 but aired second. It involved several storylines including scary stories shared in the O.R., a dead soldier who wasn’t quite dead, and drunk marines.

Most of the main cast was depicted in costume. Hawkeye dressed up as Superman, B.J. as a clown, Colonel Potter as a cowboy, Margaret as a geisha, and Klinger wore his incarcerated uncle’s zoot suit.

According to B.J., many zoots were killed to make Klinger’s zoot suit.

You can find my review of “Trick or Treatment” here. If you’re trying to put together a Halloween M*A*S*H marathon, perhaps “Follies of the Living – Concerns of the Dead” and “Dreams” will prove suitably scary.

Did anyone dress up as a M*A*S*H character for Halloween when they were a kid? A licensed costume was released by Ben Cooper, Inc. in either 1981 or 1982 (I believe). You can occasionally find one of these costumes being sold on eBay. It’s a little creepy if you’re not familiar with these kind of plastic costumes that were apparently very popular at the time.
