Discussing July’s Poll

Last month’s poll asked “Did you watch “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” when it originally aired?” Of the 224 people who responded an overwhelming majority of 73% said yes while just 27% said no. For those of you who did watch it when it originally aired, what are your memories? Did you watch with family or friends, in a big group or a small gathering? Did you participate in any festivities?

  1. When “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” aired I was about 10 years old. I really wasn’t old enough to appreciate the show, especially an emotion packed final episode like this one. At the time, I really didn’t like MASH that much because I was a kid and cared more about other things. Even then, I remember feeling uncomfortable watching as Hawkeye explained the events that played through on the bus coming back from the beach. To this day, I still feel the same discomfort while watching that part. With this said, I watched it because my parents watched it. Back then, I didn’t realize how much I would grow to love the show. I seem to remember one of my parents saying that they hated to see it end and now I understand why.

  2. The Last show really got the way it is when you are a unit that is that close. I was in a unit for 2 years and I didnt really build friendships, I built family. I’ve only seen the show a couple of more times, Once when it originally aired and about 2 others, I didnt like it when my family had to break up and move on so I dont like watching that family break up and move on. I suppose thats the main reason the other shows didnt work. MASH was a family, when it ended anything other would be like coming together for a holiday, stay a bit get familiar and then move on.
