Flickr user T Hoffarth recently traveled to the Malibu Creek State Park in California, where external shots for M*A*S*H were filmed, and took photographs matching scenes from the series. Here’s how the mountains looked in the opening credits and how they look today:

T Hoffarth also took some photographs of the remnants of the M*A*S*H set, complete with rusted vehicles and the new reproduction of the famous signpost placed there in 2008. Thanks to T Hoffarth for making this great photographs available. I stumbled upon them yesterday morning but for the life of me cannot remember what I was searching for at the time.
Things don’t look too awfully different, do they? Knowing it’s a national park now, I’m sure they’ve been doing all they can to preserve the entire area.
Still, it would be nice if they could actually take the time and the effort to rebuild the sets… that would not only be a tourist attraction, but technically, it would be a historical attraction as well: a recreation of a MASH unit in Korea, and at the same time, an exhibit for a series that made television history in more ways than one.
Glad that you like my photos and found them worthy enough to post on your site. That was my first hike out to the MASH site and I can only compare it to the first time I went to Wrigley Field. Almost like I was on hallowed ground. Very personal and satisfying. I’ve been back twice since then and enjoy having my lunch in the “mess tent”.
I grew up watching MASH and also lived within sight of those Mountains without knowing that those were The Mountains! Live away from them now, but keep watching the re-runs. My dad is buried in a cemetery near those mountains and each time I see the episodes I visit Him and the memories we shared watching the show. Many thanks for posting your pictures.
I took the Warner Brothers Tour this week with visitors that I had just told about the Malibu Creek Mash site and helicopter scene. As the tour started, the guide pointed to the mountain on the South side of the 134 freeway and told us that was the mountain in the Mash helicopter opening scene!
Always reminded me of the backside of Marine Corps Air Base at El Toro in Orange county. Reminds of the times I was stationed there.
I loved the characters , the stoies. It was amazing to how many actors,and actreses ,that are now very famous . I miss Mr. Harry Morgan, the late Larry Linville ,Will never forget McLean Stevenson . It good Americana entertaiment . I loved them one , and all .
I am still searching for the name of the monistary or church almost on the peek of the hill, left side in the openinng shots for MASH. It can be seen above on this page and the cross on the top of the building is clear as day. I would settle for a closeup of this structure, just to keep it that my mind has not been lost in something I have seen for many, many years of watching the tv show, including reruns
I’m 65 loved watching this show real tv and a great cast of characters still watch the shows on me-tv in Tampa FL

I really liked the TV show MASH and the actors.
I was driving around Uijeongbu recently and Im sure I watched some scenes from the tv series MASH that were shot of the mountains from that area. But only to findout it was all filmed in USA?
Is it possible that some scenes were filmed or added in from Uijeongbu South Korea?
