M*A*S*H Wax Figures Sold for Over $5,000

    Thursday, March 11th, 2010 at 7:42 pm

In May 1st, 2009, Profiles in History auctioned off some 200 wax figures that were originally part of the now defunct Hollywood Wax Museum as part of its Hollywood Auction 35 (read what I had to say at the time here). Included were two sets of wax figures representing the cast of M*A*S*H — Radar, B.J., Colonel Potter, Father Mulcahy, Klinger, Margaret, Charles and Hawkeye — all sculpted by Logan Fleming. Both had a pre-auction estimate of between $8,000 and $10,000. Ever since the auction took place I’ve been waiting for Profiles in History to post the prices realized and I’ve been checking their website occasionally. Today, I noticed that the website had been redesigned and now included a list of prices realized for the Hollywood Auction 35.

The first set of M*A*S*H figures (Lot #39) sold for $5,000 and the second (Lot #45) sold for $6,500 [1]. Those are actually pretty good prices considering many other lots sold for $1,000. Then again, the buyer was purchasing eight individual figures rather than just one, so in terms of price-per-figure these two sets were probably a bit low. The highest price paid was $13,500 for the thirteen figures making up The Last Supper. Next highest was $11,000 for The Beatles in their costumes from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

And the Winner Is: Nobody! The image is from “Fade In, Fade Out.” But one of my hints was incorrect and I have used an image from this episode before, so nobody should feel bad about not identifying it.
